Setting the Standard for Interior Modularity: SMUPI’s Community Registered Designs

SMUPI is a System conceived in Italy, derived from the acronym “Sistema Modulare Universale Per Interni,” which translates to Universal Interior Modular System.

SMUPI, representing a groundbreaking approach to transforming living spaces, is not only an innovative concept but also a symbol of standard-setting excellence. With a strong emphasis on protection and intellectual property rights, SMUPI is covered by various international forms of legal safeguarding. Notably, within the European Community, we have obtained two Community Registered Designs (CRDs) that have already been approved, solidifying our commitment to innovation and design integrity.

To explore the first CRD, which showcases the core concept of SMUPI, please visit :https://euipo.europa.eu/eSearch/#details/designs/008622849-0001 . This design epitomizes modularity by strategically positioning connecting components along the edges of different-sized modules at regular intervals. The modules are sized as multiples of 22, allowing for seamless integration on two dimensions for the board and on three dimensions for both the cabinet and upholstered modules. This design exclusively focuses on the magnetic function for connecting the modules.

For a closer look at the second CRD, highlighting the wooden structure of our modules with an added clip connecting function, please follow this link: https://euipo.europa.eu/eSearch/#details/designs/008730196-0001 . The inclusion of the clip enhances structural strength and security compared to the previous magnetic-only version. Additionally, it offers cost-saving benefits by reducing reliance on expensive neodymium magnets. In this design the magnets are optional and the end user will choose if use them or not depending on the desired behavior of the furniture.

Enforced across 27 countries, including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden, our Community Registered Designs showcase our unwavering dedication to protecting our intellectual property. Furthermore, our legal team is actively expanding this protection to other countries worldwide, ensuring comprehensive coverage for future licensing opportunities.

In parallel with our commitment to protection, our research and development team is diligently working on significant projects that will seamlessly integrate into the SMUPI system. These projects, once successfully registered, will be accompanied by international protection, and we eagerly anticipate sharing them with the world. Additionally, we are in the process of identifying a distinctive trademark logo that will serve as the emblem of our brand. By registering our trademark, we aim to establish a strong market presence that is easily recognizable, further promoting and protecting the SMUPI name.

Join us in shaping the future of interior spaces with SMUPI, where innovation, protection, and exceptional design converge. Together, let’s establish a new standard for modularity that transcends boundaries and sets the benchmark for excellence.
