Consider this not just a job, but a thrilling challenge—a testament to your creativity and imaginative prowess. We are on the hunt for a creative partner for an ongoing project. This challenge serves as a unique opportunity to showcase your interpretation of the SMUPI Modular System for Interiors and your ability to transform a space.

Your Canvas Awaits: Select a space of your choice to serve as your canvas. The SMUPI modules—comprising pillows, boards, and cabinets—will be your palette, offering colors and textures to breathe life into a living room setting. The twist lies in the versatility of the SMUPI modules; your initial arrangement must be reconfigured into an entirely new layout, showcasing your spatial intelligence and architectural insight.

The Objective: This exercise is designed to assess your creative flair and your strategic use of the SMUPI modules in crafting ingenious living spaces.

Your Proposal: Please provide a quote for the project, specifying the number of unique living room renderings you plan to submit. Briefly describe your envisioned layouts. Proposals are due within one week. Thereafter, you will have two weeks for selection and assembly of modules in your chosen setting, followed by an additional week each for the creation of your innovative living rooms and for rendering and lighting adjustments. Timelines are flexible; should you require more time, simply inform us.

Evaluation & Opportunity: Your proposal will be thoroughly evaluated. If deemed competitive, you will be onboarded via the Upwork platform. All submissions will be showcased in a private gallery, subject to the discerning eyes of 27 Italian creatives, including painters, interior designers, graphic designers, photographers, architects, event organizers, and fashion and jewelry designers. The collective feedback will determine potential long-term collaboration.

The Challenge Unfolds: Your Vision, Our Canvas

Objective: Your mission, should you choose to accept it, involves rendering the SMUPI modules in a living room setting. Your goal is to create varied interiors using the original set of modules you select. Beyond mere layout changes, you are tasked with proposing different materials and color palettes for the same set of modules, showcasing their versatility and your creativity.

Your Creative Playground:

  • Living Room Size: The dimensions of the living room are for you to decide. Be bold, be creative.
  • Layout Freedom: The placement of doors and windows is in your hands. Design the flow and feel of the space as you see fit.
  • Module Flexibility: You have the autonomy to choose how many SMUPI modules to incorporate. However, the catch is the balance between variety and consistency. Your submission must detail:
    • The number of renderings you plan to present.
    • A comprehensive list specifying the quantity and type of modules you intend to use.

Design Elements:

  • Module Customization: Feel free to experiment with the skin texture and color of the modules, showcasing how a single set can embody multiple aesthetics.
  • Layout Variations: How many different configurations can you create? While there’s no minimum, we encourage you to explore as many layouts as your creativity allows. Each should offer a fresh perspective and lighting scheme, bringing the living room to life in a new light.

Understanding the Modules: A Toolkit for Creativity

The Modules at a Glance:

  • Boards: These are flat panels, each 22 mm thick, with rounded borders boasting an 11 mm radius. Their dimensions—width and length—are flexible, available in any multiple of 22 cm (e.g., 22, 44, 66, 88, 110, 132, etc.). For larger panels, consider the structural integrity of a 22 mm thickness and the necessary support. The boards serve as the foundation for mounting SMUPI components—Corner, Surface, and Border components—are strategically placed every 22 cm.
  • Cabinet or Box: Constructed from 22 mm thick panels with a smooth, rounded edge radius of 11 mm, these versatile structures can match any dimension, provided it’s a multiple of 22 cm (width, height, and length). The Cabinets become truly functional with the addition of SMUPI Vertex and Edge Components, also spaced every 22 cm. Whether you choose to configure them with drawers or doors, or even utilize a board as a lid for a seamless box design, magnetic connections between borders and edges facilitate a sleek, hinge-free appearance.
  • The Components: Five key Components (Corner, Border, Vertex, Edge, and Surface) ensure versatile module connection through three innovative methods: magnetic alignment with concealed spherical neodymium magnets for intuitive positioning; mechanical connection via a sliding clip mechanism for secure assembly; and an aesthetic rubber finish that utilizes the same slots to create a seamless surface.
  • Pillow: The pillows, designed in perfect squares of 22 x 22 x 22 cm, are encased in latex modules within the pillow cover. The design allows for a maximum height of 22 cm, with the cover’s width and length adaptable in multiples of 22 cm (e.g., 22, 44, 66, 88, 110, etc.). Each pillow incorporates spherical neodymium magnets at every 22 cm along edges and vertices, facilitating invisible, yet secure, connections to other pillows, boxes, and boards.

Modular Construction: The essence of our system is its modularity. Each component and module has been meticulously designed for versatility and ease of assembly, allowing for endless creativity in constructing boards and boxes of any size. All parts and their assembly instructions are available for your innovative use and ready in .STP file format.

Your Design Playground: What goes into the living room is entirely your choice, shaped by the dimensions and configurations of the modules you select. We envision a space that might include a sofa, an armchair, sitting poufs, a coffee table, and a library equipped with a stereo system. Innovatively integrate technology within the SMUPI modules—imagine speakers seamlessly incorporated into a panel, or a television screen elegantly embedded. Versatility in Design: Explore the room’s layout both with integrated tech solutions and with these elements simply placed within the space, utilizing the flexibility of SMUPI modules. Envision this space with expansive windows against a vibrant city backdrop.

Aesthetic Flexibility: The color palette and “skin” of the furniture set are yours to define. We’re eager to see one rendering featuring a colorful and playful ambiance (Inspiration for colorful interior design: Colorful Interior Design), and others exploring varied themes like intricate wooden inlays or a bold black and white pattern (Inspiration for B&W design: B&W Interior Design). Experiment with different materials—wood, composite bamboo, or any innovative material for the panels—creating unique inlays and textures.

Detailing Matters: Strive for realism, particularly in the metallic components and the zippers on the pillows. Given the geometric structure of SMUPI pillows, consider adding softer, decorative pillows or fabric overlays to introduce a more inviting, relaxed feel.

Lighting Variations: Showcase the living room under different lighting conditions—natural daylight and a cozy evening setting with warm light. Imagine a SMUPI BOX LAMP, a 22x22x22 cm box, possibly open on one or two sides, housing a light source. This versatile piece could be attached to the library, placed beside the sofa on a side table, or creatively integrated into the furniture arrangement by using SMUPI modules.
